DIY Applications, Referred Helpers and Listed Applicators

DIY clients:  We guarantee the product against the failing conditions listed above provided:

  1. That the quality checklist and photos as requested on the last two pages of our application instructions were filled out, signed and faxed, posted or emailed to us within 30 days of the purchase. (Please keep the proof of your purchase.) We will file your quality checklist and photos for future reference.

  2. A water test result sheet should be filed with us within 30 days after the water has been treated and stabilized. The test results must specifically include a test result for Total Hardness (or Calcium Hardness). In areas where a test facility is not available (most pool shops), obtain a Insta Test 6 Plus Test Strip Kit from us when placing an order and submit a clear photo of the test strip next to the colours on the test strip bottle.

This is a product replacement guarantee only, excluding delivery cost or any other expenses incurred.

Please ensure that you have read our application instructions carefully to avoid costly mistakes. The last two pages (quality control checklist) of the installation instructions must be completed and returned to us within 30 days of purchase together with the pictures required to validate the guarantee. This is required irrespective of who the private applicator was that might have been hired to apply the DIY package you bought directly from us, and is applicable to all DIY purchases.

Referred worker/applicator: When making use of an experienced worker/applicator to help you with the application (we can refer one to you), please keep in mind that this is not a business operator with the resources and financial backing to offer a full product and application guarantee should things go wrong, it is still a DIY price level offering with limited warranty conditions. This option a purely offered as an additional help and the client is responsible to supervise the work and quality to satisfaction. This product replacement warranty subject to the submission of a Water Test Result Sheet within 30 days from date of product purchase.

Referred business owners/contractors: Listed contractors are independent business owners re-selling our epoxy pool paint and provide their own workmanship guarantees towards end-clients which will be in line with the manufacturers guarantee as indicated on this website. Listed applicators have a back-to-back product replacement guarantee with the manufacturer in the unlikely case of a batch production related product failure. Please inquire from the service provider (applicator) regarding their references, guarantee and conditions of sale prior to entering into a full application agreement. A water test result sheet including a test for Total Hardness (or Calcium Hardness) should be obtained and should be submitted to the contractor within 30 days to avoid unnecessary disputes at a later stage.

Why the Calcium Hardness (Total Hardness) Test Results?

Total hardness in the context of pool water refers to the total mineral content of the water. This is made up of calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and other elements.

The ideal range for calcium hardness for epoxy pool painted swimming pools is 300-500 ppm.

If the calcium hardness is too low, the water becomes very corrosive and results in the etching of the pool's surfaces. As a result, the painting will bleach very quickly and loose colour. Minerals extracted from the coating and the underlying pool surface due to aggressive water may result in premature chalking and thinning of the paint layer. The plaster surface behind the coating may become pitted or brittle resulting in hollow spots forming behind the coating.

Other conditions like alkalinity, pH, chlorine etc should be kept within range as per normal pool maintenance requirements for best results and performance of the paint.

If your warranty claim falls outside our guarantee conditions, but is still within the year period:

Even if you have not submitted the required documents or adhered to the conditions of sale, we will offer our epoxy pool paint needed for the repair at a 50% discounted current price as a DIY kit to existing customers (no profit intent). Proof of initial purchase will still be required.

Recommendations to Prolong the Lifespan of the Paint Layer

Chemicals to use

Our epoxy pool paint is acid and chlorine resistant when these chemicals are added as per manufacturers instructions to maintain normal recommended water conditions.

Salt Chlorinators

Our product also works with salt chlorinators when used with minimum required salt additions to maintain water clear conditions, see our FAQ page for recommendations on chemicals and the use of salt chlorinators. Salt chlorinators might reduce the lifespan of the product.

Colour stability

A measure of fading and of colour depth reduction over years might occur and is normal to pool paint products exposed to this chemical-rich environment and UV radiation. The general appearance of the coating will however always offer that smooth, clean look for many years until the natural thinning of the coating may require refurbishing with new top-coat layers.

Calcium Hardness (Total Hardness)

Please provide a water test result for our records within one month after installation to avoid unnecessary disputes later. We do not grantee the paint layer if this condition was not rectified and maintained after filling the swimming pool.

Total hardness in the context of pool water refers to the total mineral content of the water. This is made up of calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and other elements.

The ideal range for calcium hardness is 300-500 ppm.

If the calcium hardness is too low, the water becomes very corrosive and results in the etching of the pool's surfaces. As a result, the painting will bleach very quickly and loose colour, minerals extracted from the coating and the underlying pool surface may result in small cracks and chips of paint coming of and the plaster surface become pitted behind the coating.

Reverse osmosis due to structural porosity:

Reverse osmosis related problems due to structural porosity and high water table pressures can result in small bubbles appearing in the coating. Our product has been developed to offer exceptional bonding strength and thickness to withstand reasonable pressure from outside the swimming pool but is still dependent on the integrity of the pool structure. See our installation instructions on how to test and inspect the pool surface beforehand to determine if moist is present in the structure. This is done by means of inspection holes and a clear plastic moist test of the surface. All moist should be drained first and the pool should be treated with a product called PCT56 water barrier. This will minimize the risk.

Applicators should evaluate the structure before application of the epoxy coat as described above and and according to our instructions to determine if it is a risk for the applied epoxy layer. If the structure seems to leak water from the outside inwards on a large scale while the pool is empty and during the sanding and preparation process, this need to be addressed first in order to implement special sealing techniques to try and minimize the risk, or it might be decided not to apply an epoxy coat at all.

In most cases where this problem did occur, small 3-5mm bubbles stayed intact for the lifespan of the coating, still offering an esthetically pleasant appearance and will normally only be visible in isolated areas and detectable by close inspection. If larger bubbles formed or de-lamination occurs, we will offer our topcoat epoxy at a 50% discounted price as a DIY kit to existing customers (no profit intent) to repair and strengthen the epoxy layer.
